Computer lessons for seniors in Montréal-Nord

From the banks of the Rivière des Prairies to Henri-Bourassa Boulevard, Montréal-Nord is a neighbourhood where helping each other matters. Our lessons are in that spirit: someone patient, at your home, explaining without jargon and repeating without a sigh.

At your place, in Montréal-Nord

An apartment near Aimé-Léonard Park, a flat on Charleroi Street, a residence on Gouin Boulevard: we travel all over Montréal-Nord. At home, in a residence, or at the Maison culturelle et communautaire if you’d rather meet somewhere familiar.

We often help students stay in touch with family — here and abroad: WhatsApp, video calls, photos, voice messages. It’s the most common request in the neighbourhood, and our favourite one.

Montréal-Nord has seniors’ residences and a great many three-storey walk-ups where people grow older at home, often close to their children. We come to both: your own apartment, your residence’s common room, or your daughter’s kitchen if that’s where the computer lives. Travel is included.

What a lesson looks like in Montréal-Nord

There’s no metro station in the borough: your teacher comes by car or along Pie-IX Boulevard, and parks on the street without trouble. Lessons mostly happen in two- and three-storey flats, sometimes up an outside staircase — nothing that causes a problem, we carry only a notebook.

One thing comes up often here, and it isn’t technical: the device was set up by a grandson, in French or English, while the person reads more comfortably in Creole, Italian or Spanish. We can change the phone’s language, enlarge the text, and redo together the settings someone else made on your behalf. That’s often what unlocks everything else.

Times that respect your schedule

On weekdays, your teacher arrives at the end of the day: lessons generally start at 6 p.m.. On weekends, we come to you between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. — perfect for learning with a clear head, no clock-watching.

When you book online, you immediately see which days and times are still free in your neighbourhood. And if you’d rather call, we’ll take all the time you need.

What we can learn together

Every lesson starts from your questions. The most common ones:

  • Getting comfortable with your tablet, iPad or phone (iPhone or Android)
  • Writing emails and video-calling your loved ones
  • Organizing and sharing your photos
  • Browsing the internet and doing things online safely
  • Spotting scams and protecting your passwords
  • Fixing the little things: Wi-Fi, printer, scary pop-ups

Frequently asked questions

Do you really come to homes in Montréal-Nord?

Yes — that’s the whole idea. Your teacher comes to your home, your residence or a neighbourhood café, and travel is included in the price. We cover the whole area: Montréal-Nord, from the riverbanks to Henri-Bourassa Boulevard.

When can I have a lesson in Montréal-Nord?

On weekdays, lessons generally start at 6 p.m.. On weekends, we come to you between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. When you book online, you see the remaining openings in real time.

Is the first lesson really free?

Yes, entirely, whichever format you choose. It’s our way of getting to know each other: if you enjoy it, the next lessons are $50, $70 or $90 depending on length — no tax, no subscription.

I live elsewhere, but my parents are in Montréal-Nord — can I book for them?

Of course — many families do. Book online and mention it’s for a loved one, or call us: we take care of everything, including introducing ourselves to your parents before the first lesson.

My phone is in French but I read Creole more easily. Can that be changed?

Yes, and it’s a frequent request. A phone or tablet’s language can be changed in a few minutes, and we can enlarge the text and icons at the same time. The lesson itself is in French or English, your choice — but your device can speak the language you’re comfortable in.

My son set everything up and I’m afraid to touch it. Can you start over with me?

That’s exactly our job. We go through the settings one at a time, show you what each one does, and write down together what’s worth remembering. Nothing is erased without your say-so, and you leave with notes in your own handwriting — not a device that only someone else understands.
